Coming to The Ebony House is the best decision I made in 30 years. I flew from New Jersey to Phoenix specifically for the program. I was struggling with drugs and alcohol dealing with a number of internal issues such as grief and loss, disappointment, and depression. While in The Ebony House 90 day program The clinical counseling I received was priceless There I learned Positive Coping Mechanisms, How to deal with Life on life’s terms, How to identify the signs of a relapse, How to forgive myself and love myself again thru a process called “The Man in the Mirror “ How to release Internal Poison, To hold myself Accountable. The Ebony House helped me regain structure to a life that was unmanageable. I went from running the streets, partying all the time in a lifestyle full of alcohol and drugs with no progress, no growth, losing relationships losing financially, losing time and losing myself to being a productive member of society with a full time job making great pay with benefits and becoming the owner of my own business. The greatest gift of all The Ebony House brought me back to sanity ridding my emotional poisons I was able to adapt a new mind set a new perception of life. The classes that were taught and the tools that were given saved my life and turned my life around for the better… I have been able to regain relationships with loved ones being a better man a better son a better father a better person.. I owe my current success and my new state of mind all to The Ebony House.. I love myself again Im proud of myself and I’m able to deal with life like never before Thanks to the program that The Ebony House Provides…Those counselors are not just people to me they are Angels sent from my Higher Power. After two strokes and being diagnosed with Covid, I was in the hospital with no insurance and was given a list with the names of a few places I could call for social services. Ebony House was one of the names and the one I felt most comfortable calling first. I spoke with Ebony House Outreach not knowing how much he would change my life. Ebony House Outreach got me on Arizona Access, where I was able to get the proper hospital and medical care I needed, as well as food assistance. During my ten month recovery I became unemployed and homeless. Through the help of a great friend who opened her home to me, and family and other friends who supported me with keeping my cell phone and transportation, I was able to survive. Mr. Pierson was with me every step of the way. He made sure I was covered medically and emotionally. He made sure I made my doctor appointments, had the meds I needed and gave me advice and encouragement to face another day. Mr. Pierson was always there to get me in the proper program to help my situation. When my SSA Disability was approved and started, Ebony House Outreach got me in a program that helped me secure a residence to live. I don’t know where I would be without the help of Ebony House and especially without Outreach. He is so much more than a Social Worker to me. Thank you Ebony House and Outreach from the bottom of my heart.
I am very grateful for Ebony House because it saved my life three times.
In 2015 I came to Ebony House from Dallas Texas for treatment. My drug choice was meth and alcohol. I was IV drug user for 15 years. A month in treatment I found out I was HIV positive. It was the worst day and best day of my life. Ebony House helped me navigate my HIV diagnosis with linkage care to services with Ebony House outreach services.
I received case management counseling, and also education about HIV. it’s been eight years and I have remained undetectable for eight years. November 3, 2021. I had to surrender again. I was mentally physically financially spiritually bankrupt. I came back to Phoenix to Ebony house with open arms from the staff. This time I had to take the cotton out of my ears and put them in my mouth and listen. I successfully completed 90 days in treatment and went to supportive housing for six months. It was the best decision and it helped save my life and strengthen my recovery to have a stronger foundation. Ebony House taught me how to live again to love again and how to be me again the real me. Ebony house is a place where I grew up my home. I am two years sober the longest time I ever had in my life. Thankful for Ebony House. I have a purpose working as a program supervisor in HIV services. I come back to the men’s residential site. I chair the H and I CA meeting. Part of my service commitment that have been doing for 2 years. I am part of the Ebony House alumni Association. I’m so blessed that I came to a place a house that inspired and change my life that’s why Ebony House will always have my heart.
I completed the residential phase at Ebony House 2018. I continue to walk upright as an Ebony House man! I state that because I received so much at the Ebony House. The thing that plays in my mind constantly is, Mr. Freeman banging on the wall yelling the answer is right here. What he was pointing out is the poster that read, Do what’s right, appropriate and, necessary for you. I use it, I share it and it keeps me on the “Sirat al-Mustaqim” “The straight path”. On my way to the Ebony House I made a decision to get my self together, I could have turned left, I had 70 dollars in my pocket but, I said to my self – self, go ahead and clean your self up! I actually miss the folks at the Ebony House. I have not had the opportunity to visit because I live in upstate New York. For anyone that takes the time to read this and is considering checking into the Ebony House, do it! You’ll be pleased when you get to the other side!
